Four Bison selected to the All-NEAC women's volleyball teams, Giuntoli named Rookie of the Year

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its 2018 Women's Volleyball All-Conference selections and Gallaudet University had four student-athletes selected to one of the three teams and took home the NEAC Rookie of the Year honor.

Junior outside hitter Adele Daniels (Austin, Texas) is GU's lone repeat selection as she makes a second appearance on the first team after being picked in 2016 to the same team. Senior middle hitter Shua Clay (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and sophomore outside hitter Karita Lewis (Frederick, Md.) were named to the second team. Freshman setter Emma Giuntoli (Austin, Texas) was voted to the third team and took home 2018 NEAC Rookie of the Year honors.

Daniels is a two-time NEAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week (Oct. 1, Oct. 22) and ranks No. 18 in NCAA Division III for total attacks (1,120) and 29th in kills (386). She leads the NEAC in matches (33), starts (33), sets (115), kills (405), points (475), total attacks (1,170) and is second in kills per set (3.52), points per set (4.1) and third in digs (420). Daniels has 21 double-doubles this season and 24 times she had 10 or more kills in a match. Daniels was the 2016 NEAC Rookie of the Year in addition to being named to the all-conference first team.

Clay ranks 46th in Division III in blocks (96) and leads the NEAC in matches (33), starts (33), sets (115) and total blocks (100). She is second in hitting percentage (.305), blocks per set (0.87) and third in block solo (28) and block assist (72). Clay had a block in 32 of 33 matches and was named to the Battlefield Classic all-tournament team this season.

Lewis is a two-time NEAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week (Oct. 1, Oct. 15) and leads the NEAC in matches (33), starts (33) and sets (115). She is fourth in points (334.5), total attacks (819), sixth in kills (267) and seventh in digs (345). Lewis has nine double-doubles this season and 11 times recorded 10 or more kills in a match.

Giuntoli ranks 49th in Division III for assists (986) and 50th in service aces (55). She leads the NEAC in matches (33), sets (115) and assists (1,024). Giuntoli is second in assists per set (8.90), service aces (57) and fourth in starts (32). She had five double-doubles and 40 or more assists in seven matches this season.

Morrisville State junior outside hitter Megyan Merrill was named the 2018 NEAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Year. Merrill's teammate, junior libero Sam Wolf took home 2018 NEAC Women's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Year honors. Morrisville State coach Fred Wallace was voted as the NEAC Coach of the Year by his peers after directing the Mustangs to a 23-6 overall regular-season record, 11-0 mark in conference play and the No. 1 seed in the NEAC tournament.

Each team can only nominate four players to be considered for all-conference recognition. Since Gallaudet has been in the NEAC, starting with the 2010 season, 31 Bison have earned all-conference honors. GU has earned 19 first-team, nine second-team selections, three third-team selections, five Player of the Year awards, three Rookie of the Year awards, one Defensive Player of the Year and one Coach of the Year award.
