GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its conference student-athlete of the week awards for the week of Oct. 23 and Gallaudet University junior Julia Miller-Notestone (Medford, Ore.) was selected as the NEAC Women's Swimmer of the Week.
Miller-Notestone finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of six minutes, 2.62 seconds last Saturday in the home opener against Bridgewater (Va.). She had two third-place finishes in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events with times of 1:03.63 and 2:17.27, respectively. and was a member of the 200-yard medley relay team that placed third. GU lost the meet 201-40 to the Eagles.
It was a clean sweep for the Gallaudet swimming program as freshman Barry McGrain III (Lakeville, N.Y.) was selected as the NEAC Men's Swimmer of the Week. McGrain III made quite the splash in his home debut against Bridgewater (Va.) last Saturday as he won the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events with personal-best times of 2:09.77 and 5:55.13, respectively. He took third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:10.65) and was a member of GU's 200-yard medley relay team that took second. GU lost the meet 152-71 to the Eagles.
This is Gallaudet women's swimming and diving program's first NEAC Swimmer of the Week honor this season and Miller-Notestone's second of her career.
Gallaudet will next swim at the Cazenovia Invitational in Cazenovia, N.Y., on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 1 p.m.
