GU's Cameron Upton named to ABCA All-South region third team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Gallaudet University senior shortstop Cameron Upton (Vicksburg, Miss.) was selected to the 2019 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division III All-South region third team. This is the second year in a row Upton has landed on the ABCA All-South region teams after being named to the first team last year at second base.

Upton was recently named to the D3baseball.com All-South region third team and landed on the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) first team for a second straight year.

Upton ranks 17th in NCAA Division III for batting average (.440) and 40th in on base percentage (.509). He finished the season second in the NEAC for hits (62), third in stolen bases (17), fourth in batting average (.440), sixth in on base percentage (.509), seventh in total bases (77), 11th in triples (two) and slugging percentage (.546). He was named NEAC Baseball Player of the Week (Feb. 25) and selected to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week (Feb. 19) this season. Upton finished his career with a new school record in hits (218).

Upton was the only North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) player on the ABCA All-South region teams. Wells College catcher Dylan Nolan and Keuka College shortstop Brooks Vertoske were picked to the ABCA All-New York second team.

Gallaudet has nine ABCA All-Region selections in its history.

The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America Committee.

ABCA/Rawlings All-Region first-team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans will be announced on the evening of Thursday, May 30.

The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.
