MINNEAPOLIS – Gallaudet University junior second baseman Cameron Upton (Vicksburg, Miss.) was named to the 2018 All-South region second team as announced by the national website that covers NCAA Division III baseball. Upton was named to the all-conference first team by the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) earlier this month.

Upton is tied for second in NCAA Division III for sacrifice flies (8), 16th in triples (6), 22nd in triples per game (0.15) and 41st in batting average (.426). Upton leads the NEAC in games (39), triples (6) and sacrifice flies (8). He is third in hits (58), fourth in RBI (41), fifth in at bats (136), doubles (12), total bases (85) and sixth in batting average (.426). He was named NEAC Baseball Player of the Week on May 7 while also landing on the Team of the Week and being named the NCBWA Division III National Hitter of the Week that same week.

Upton, making his first appearance on the All-Region team, is the only NEAC player on the All-South region team. The NEAC was well represented in the All-Mid-Atlantic Region where Penn St.-Berks third baseman Toby Welk (first team), Penn St.-Abington second baseman Ryan McCarty (first team), Lancaster Bible College outfielder Will Welsh (second team) and Penn St.-Berks shortstop Dante Salerno (third team) were selected. Welk was voted Mid-Atlantic Player of the Week while McCarty took home Mid-Atlantic Rookie of the Year honors. Keuka College shortstop John Rizzo was picked to the All-New York third team.

Gallaudet now has seven All-Region honors in program history and the first since the 2014 season.

This is the seventh year has compiled all-region teams. Players were nominated and by sports information directors (SIDs) at the various schools. Over 800 players were nominated for the eight different regions (Central, Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, Midwest, New England, New York, South, West). The ballots were made available to SIDs and the staff and contributors to vote for a predetermined number of players in their respective region.

Note: National rankings are through May 21, NEAC rankings are final
